Candy Green for Halloween
It’s that time of year again where we get a customer who gets it like we do and wants nothing but the glassiest, classiest candy, in a colour that would make Boyd Coddington’s knees go weak. It’s also halloween too, and nothing says halloween like candy green.
Somewhat tired from our busiest period ever and perhaps a little fed up like the rest of you with not getting out as much, we thought we’d buy a load of smoke grenades and head down to the local dogging spot to give Matt’s new bike the send off it deserves. We can’t go to the mountains, after all.
Simon Eldon (our photographer) likes nothing more than making our bikes look radder, but we seldom let him do anything really fun, so it didn’t take much convincing to talk him into it.
His lifetime membership of the (Sussex Village) Residents Association in jeopardy, we headed to some local woods (probably not even in Sussex) with an arsenal of dangerous looking grenades, a couple of beers and Matt’s Izoard RR.
As a side note, when we planned the shoot Simon bet me I couldn’t rent a Wolf. Or perhaps he suggested I shouldn’t? We didn’t in the end, but you not only CAN rent a wolf (I was right, Simon) you can also get one on Halloween week, which was my only surprise.
Simon likes doing stuff in camera here at Spoon Customs. He’s bloody good at it and our bikes look best that way. Hence the real fake smoke.
I took along our baby camera and whilst Simon did the hard work, he ordered me around telling me when to let off another smoke grenade whilst I filmed his efforts from the shadowy brambles.
The results are here for you to see. A little bit of fun (from the gloom) and a glimpse behind the scenes, in celebration of a rad bike and the spookiest of seasons, Halloween.
The bike itself is anything but a horror, in that it’s our Izoard RR platform, custom fitted and tuned for Matt. It was painted at Gun Control Custom Paint, in an in-house candy mixed up in Sam Weeks magic cauldron. It’s painted over a gold metallic base, with metallic black contrast decals with and a one-of-one matt black head badge, specially customised to suit the murdered out Campagnolo Record build.
It’s a rim brake bike, with 25mm tyres so it’s got no business in the woods really, unless it’s trying to scare you, which this one is. We’ll call that artistic licence, but this is the internet, so I’ll bet you the same amount of money I didn’t bet Simon I couldn’t rent a wolf that someone mentions that in the insta comments in the first ten minutes of this post going live…
Happy Halloween Everyone!
